Busan in winter is a different city from the summer beach crowds: milder than Seoul, often bright and clear, with quiet beaches, sea views from warm cafés and light festivals along Haeundae and in the old downtown. If you’re visiting Korea between December and February, adding two or three days in Busan gives you a softer climate and a completely different side of the country.

How cold is Busan in winter?

Busan sits on the southeast coast and is one of Korea’s mildest big cities in winter: daytime highs are often above freezing and snow is rare. The catch is the wind off the sea, which makes beaches and bridges feel much colder than the thermometer suggests. A warm jacket, hat and gloves are enough most days; you won’t need the heaviest Seoul-style padding unless there’s a cold snap.

How do I get to Busan from Seoul in winter?

The KTX from Seoul Station to Busan Station takes about 2.5 hours and runs frequently; book ahead around Christmas, New Year and Seollal (6–9 February 2027). Details in Seoul to Busan by KTX. Inside Busan, the subway and buses take T-money: see getting around Busan.

A 2-day winter plan

  1. Day 1: arrive by KTX, lunch near Busan Station, Gamcheon in the afternoon, Nampo markets and the Gwangbok-ro lights in the evening.
  2. Day 2: Haeundae beach walk, a hot spring or spa, Gwangalli at sunset and dinner with a view of Gwangan Bridge.

Is Busan accessible in winter?

Busan’s subway has elevators at most stations and the beachfront promenades are flat. Hilly areas such as Gamcheon have steep lanes and steps. Winter’s lack of snow and ice actually makes Busan easier to get around than Seoul in January.
