Start just outside Exit 3 of Hongik University Station, where the old railway line has become a long, narrow park locals call “Yeontral Park”. Grab a coffee from one of the cafés alongside (Hongdae and Yeonnam cafés) and watch the sunset with the picnicking crowd.

2. Dakgalbi dinner, 18:30

Walk south across the main road to the busy food streets. Yoogane serves dakgalbi, spicy chicken stir-fried at your table, finished with fried rice in the same pan. For charcoal BBQ instead, Yook-Mong is nearby. More choices in our Hongdae restaurants guide.

3. Red Road busking, 20:00

Hongdae’s main street, branded the Red Road, has marked busking spots. On weekend evenings dance crews and singers perform for crowds; the square in front of KT&G Sangsangmadang is one of the main stages. Busking is free; a tip or a follow on social media is appreciated. More in things to do in Hongdae.

4. Photo booths and coin karaoke, 21:00

Squeeze into a self-service photo booth (look for 인생네컷 and similar brands) for a printed strip with props, then sing at a coin noraebang (코인노래방), tiny booths where you pay per song. Both are on almost every block around Wausan-ro 21-gil.

5. Late snack, 22:15

End the food part of the night with spicy tteokbokki and fried snacks from one of the late-night shops near Exit 9, such as Hongdae Jopok Tteokbokki, a local institution that started as a food truck.

6. Hongik Univ. Station, 23:00, or keep going

Catch one of the last trains, which leave around midnight. If you’re staying out, the club strip between Hongik University’s main gate and Sangsu Station gets busy after midnight, with entry about 10,000–20,000 KRW including a drink. Bring your passport: in 2026 you must be born in 2007 or earlier to enter clubs.

Is Hongdae safe at night?

  • Generally yes: it’s busy and well lit until late. Keep your phone and bag in front of you in crowds.
  • After the last train, use the Kakao T app for taxis; queues at taxi stands get long around 1–3 am.
  • Drink sensibly; convenience stores sell hangover drinks, and water is free in most bars and restaurants.

Variations

  • Rainy night: swap the park for a café in Yeonnam, and spend longer at karaoke.
  • Live music instead of clubs: small venues around Sangsu host indie bands most nights.
  • Shopping first: start at 15:00 with vintage and streetwear (Hongdae shopping).
