Hongdae Shopping Guide (2026): Korean Streetwear, Vintage Shops and Where to Find Them
October 21, 2026 | by Korea Bestie
Hongdae shopping is about Korean street style rather than luxury: cheap trend pieces on the main street, Korean streetwear brands toward Sangsu and Hapjeong, and vintage shops hidden in Yeonnam’s lanes. It’s where young Seoulites shop, so prices are friendlier than in Gangnam. Here’s how Hongdae’s shopping is laid out in 2026, the stores worth finding, and practical tips on sizes, fitting rooms and getting your tax back.

Hongdae’s three shopping zones
| Zone | What you’ll find | Typical prices |
|---|---|---|
| Main street (Eoulmadang-ro, from Exit 9) | Fast fashion, basics, accessories, cosmetics | Mostly under 30,000 KRW (~$23) |
| Sangsu and Hapjeong | Korean streetwear and indie brands | About 50,000–150,000 KRW (~$38–113) |
| Yeonnam lanes and the street toward Sangsu | Curated and “by the kilo” vintage | From under 30,000 KRW |
Most shops open around 11 am or noon and close around 10 pm. A 2026 shopping guide puts the peak at 4–9 pm; weekdays from 2–5 pm are the calmest.
Korean streetwear brands
- thisisneverthat (디스이즈네버댓): one of Korea’s best-known streetwear labels, with a flagship in Seogyo-dong. A 2026 guide lists T-shirts at about 42,000 KRW and hoodies at about 98,000 KRW, and hours of noon–9 pm. Go on a weekday before 2 pm to avoid fitting-room queues.
- LMC: darker, edgier graphics. Knits, bags and beanies are popular souvenirs.
- Covernat: casual, preppy pieces with the “C” logo, with off-season items often discounted.
- Musinsa Standard: the in-house basics label of Korea’s biggest fashion platform, near Exit 9. Good for simple slacks, shirts and blazers.

Vintage shops

- Vintage Santa: branded 1990s sportswear: Nike, Adidas, Polo windbreakers and jackets.
- Omnipeople Heavy: American military surplus, workwear and heritage denim near Sangsu.
- Vin Prime: a budget vintage chain with fixed, tagged prices, often under 30,000 KRW for Japanese cardigans and trench coats.
Good to know: most vintage shops don’t take returns or exchanges, and vintage sizes run small. Check the shoulders before you buy.
Bargains, design goods and characters
- M Playground: the big blue store on the main street, stacked with cheap socks (a few hundred to about 1,500 KRW a pair) and basic tees.
- Object (오브젝트) Seogyo: a multi-floor shop beside the Gyeongui Line Forest Park selling stickers, posters, totes and mugs by independent Korean illustrators. Great for gifts.
- KT&G Sangsangmadang: design goods and quirky souvenirs on the lower floors.
- AK& Hongdae: the mall beside Hongik University Station, with character shops and frequent pop-ups.
- Hongdae Free Market: handmade crafts on Saturdays from March to November (see things to do in Hongdae).

Shopping tips for visitors
- Sizes: Korean “Free Size” fits roughly a US women’s 4–6 or a men’s medium. Oversized streetwear runs bigger, so try it on.
- Fitting rooms: take your shoes off, and use the face cover provided before trying on tops. Some shops don’t let you try on white tops, so ask first.
- Tax refund: look for a “Tax Free” sticker, show your physical passport before you pay, and the VAT comes off at the till. Minimum spends vary by shop. See our Korea tax refund guide.
- Prices are fixed in shops. Bargaining isn’t usual.
- Fakes: very cheap “Supreme” or “Stüssy” from street stalls are almost certainly replicas.
- Shopping before a flight? Leave your suitcase at Hongdae luggage storage.
